Playing in the Fountain

Friends,

Last week, I decided to enjoy an early lunch at The Grove restaurant. As I walked past Kinder Lake in Discovery Green Park, I looked at the children playing in the Gateway Fountain, a series of water jets spouting a series of arches that bend up, and gracefully back down.

As I watched the children splashing, I thought about joining them, away from the beating sun and adult responsibilities…. for a moment, all I wanted to do was drop my briefcase and play in the water, stomping on holes before the water came out, laying down and making “water angels” under the sun.

And even though I kept my reservation and ate a delicious wood grilled skirt steak, selfishly I wished I were a child, now, in this beautiful burgeoning Houston Downtown with its lush green playground and fountain spilling against the reflection of the towering buildings.
